Entropion

Entropion

Entropion is an eye abnormality in dogs when the eyelid and eyelashes turn inward towards the eye, irritating the eye’s surface [1]. This can lead to chronic irritation, inflammation, and even corneal ulcers. Entropion can affect the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both, but the lower eyelid is more commonly affected.

The condition is frequently found in certain breeds, such as Shar Peis, Bulldogs, and Bloodhounds, and is often caused by a genetic predisposition. Symptoms of entropion in dogs can include excessive tearing, squinting, redness, and rubbing or pawing at the eyes. If left untreated, entropion can lead to further complications, such as infections and corneal damage. Treatment options for entropion may include surgery or the use of corrective contact lenses, depending on the severity of the condition. Veterinary care should be sought if pet owners suspect their dog has entropion.
