Sable Color

Sable is a color commonly found in dogs’ coats and can come in shades of gray, silver, tan, golden, and yellow, with black tips in some regions of the body, such as whiskers, back, head, ear, and tail [1].

There are three different patterns of sable coats: tipped sable, clear sable, and shaded sable. The tipped sable has black tips on the hair, giving a unique look to the coat. Clear sable has a uniform color throughout the coat, with no black tips, and shaded sable is darker at the base of the hair and lighter at the tips.

Dogs That May Have Sable Coats

Some breeds that may have sable coats include German Shepherds, Shetland Sheepdogs, Siberian Huskies, and Collies [1]. Sable coats can be quite striking, and some dogs may have a combination of sable with other colors in their coats, making for a unique and beautiful appearance.
